How to Know Your Clients’ Future Medical Costs

Seeking full reimbursement for current medical expenses very often does not fairly compensate injured parties.  Your client’s treating physician may have performed surgeries, dispensed medications, and prescribed equipment, but did the doctor make clear the expected life of equipment, the anticipated length of medical treatment, and the expectations for future procedures?  If the intention is to base the settlement on the current medical costs, did any of the healthcare providers charge below average fees that may not be available to the injured party in the future?  What if the patient moves to an area where healthcare costs are higher?

Expert Assessments, LLC understands how today’s serious injury can create a lifetime of medical expenses that merit fair compensation.  Any time you have a case involving serious injuries, call Expert Assessments for a no-cost, no-obligation initial consultation.  You may find that a Future Medical Cost Analysis will help ensure a fair settlement.

Medical Record Review: First, Dr. Taub reviews the existing medical record to confirm the treating physician’s findings.  When findings are confirmed, Dr. Taub uses his 22 years of medical and rehabilitation experience to determine the future medical needs of the injured party.  This analysis includes standard expectations for follow-up procedures, lab work, physician visits, equipment, nursing, etc. over the life expectancy of the patient.  Expert Assessments presents the final report to the client’s treating physician for approval and/or revision.  The treating doctor then signs the analysis indicating that he/she finds the report to be real and accurate.

Determining Medical Costs: Expert Assessments, LLC establishes medical costs by utilizing both regional prices (relative to the injured party) and national prices.  Fees for procedures are determined by comparing Medicare costs with the average of three regional providers.  Medication prices are determined by averaging the charges of Eckerd’s, Walgreens, and CVS.  Expert Assessments, LLC determines lab costs and other costs by surveying regional providers.

Attorneys should consider E.A.’s Future Medical Cost Analysis as an expert assessment and a conservative estimate of medical expenses over the patient’s life expectancy.  This analysis alone does not take into account unforeseen complications, inflation, or future price increases.  However, Expert Assessments, LLC also offers the expert services of an economist who can provide settlement structure plans designed to protect the real value of a settlement against future economic and pricing uncertainties.  The Future Medical Cost Analysis alone will facilitate a full and fair settlement by identifying ongoing medical expenses and providing realistic current pricing for the specified medical care.
